🎵 OneFootball x Andrew Cushin: Newcastle have lost their nastiness

As part of OneFootball's collaboration series with Shoot Music we're interviewing an artist every week about their love of football.

This week it's Newcastle fan, Andrew Cushin.

When did you start supporting Newcastle and why?

I started supporting Newcastle when I was a bairn… as long as I can remember I’ve supported Newcastle? My dad was a fan so as am I.. that’s just the way it is.

What’s been your favourite memory growing up as a Newcastle fan?

I remember fondly the 5-1 game against Sunderland.. I was 9 or 10 years old, Halloween it was! I remember being over the moon before heading out that night. My first experience of European football was very special also! I was about 12/13 then and went to a fair few of those games!

If you could put one Newcastle player from the past - that isn't Alan Shearer - into this current team, who would it be and why?

Shay Given hands down. He was the reason I started playing football as a kid and was a true idol for me. It’s been a pleasure to meet him since, he’s always very welcome to join the band as well, ha ha! But aye, Shay would keep us tidy in the sticks for sure.

What’s going wrong with Newcastle’s away form? 

It’s hard to say. I think we’ve lost that nastiness we had a few years ago, the ability to rattle teams, have them frustrated. We have some world class players but we seem to be a little too respectful away from home this season! It’s something I hope we sort out as soon as possible.

Tell us about your single New World Blazing…

New World Blazing was written as one of the final songs for my album “Love is For Everyone”. It’s about as close to Oasis I think I get in my live set. It’s a tune with lots of energy; a real feel good stomper I’d like to think.
