As the Texas Longhorns continue to build their 2027 class, they got encouraging news on the recruiting front on Wednesday. Three-star wide receiver Jeremiah Douglas revealed his top five schools and included the Longhorns. For head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, it was an encouraging sign as they look to add playmakers to the offense.

While Douglas would be a welcome sign, Texas does face competition. The other programs on his list are Kansas, Kansas State, SMU and Vanderbilt. Any of those programs would benefit from having a player like Douglas in the mix.

Currently, the Crandall High star is ranked as the 48th best wide receiver in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 52nd-best player from Texas. With two seasons left in his high school career, rankings could change if he continues to improve. As a freshman, Douglas flashed his potential.

During the 2023 campaign, Douglas hauled in 16 catches for 248 yards. He also found the end zone three times and made the most of his opportunities. While his statistics may not jump off the page, Douglas showed that he could be a productive wide receiver while learning a new offense.

Over the last few weeks, the Longhorns have been connected to some of the best players in the 2027 class. They have made offers to four-star prospects such as Tyson Robinson, Caden Waye, Noah Roberts, Nick Lennear, Easton Royal, and Brock Williams. Securing a commitment from any of those players would give Texas a bright future.

With no commitment date set, the Longhorns' focus is to get Douglas to campus for a visit. If they can do that, they will be able to show the talented wide receiver why his college career should start in Austin.
