Josh Hart suffered a misfortune off the court as a police report recently surfaced, revealing that the New York Knicks star suffered a burglary while staying at a hotel in the city in early September that cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars.
According to a report by the New York Post's Amanda Woods and Estrella McDaniel, Hart was staying at The Dominick Hotel on Spring Street near Varick Street in Soho, New York City, when he learned that his collection of watches and jewelry, which was reportedly worth $185,000, was gone.

He reportedly lost a watch chase containing three watches and one bracelet that amounted to nearly 200k dollars.
The theft was only reported three days later. Since then, the police have made no arrest, as Hart and the residents of the hotel at the time of the cricket were not able to provide an accurate description of the potential suspect, leaving the case wide open.
How fans reacted
The police report was made before the 2025-2026 NBA season, where Hart has been averaging 10.4 points on 48.9 percent shooting from the field, 7.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists.

"I'm surprised that I didn't hear about it – I'm a huge NBA fan," Saunders told the Post. "There's always going to be something you can never help that, but certainly in my stay, I felt good, it didn't feel sketchy or anything wrong at any time."
Meanwhile, another person from Paris who stayed at the hotel for four days said she was not surprised, saying that she had a bad feeling about the place.

Indeed, it was surprising that a luxury hotel like this was even robbed. The Forbes Travel Guide rated the Dominick Hotel four stars as it featured "great views of the city and the Hudson River." Yet an NBA player like Hart, who is set to earn nearly $20 million in salary this year, was not spared from lowly crimes such as a burglary.

NBA players and other sports athletes have been targeted
In recent months, NBA players have become victims of robberies and home break-ins.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMost recently, in early November, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's home was burglarized. In December of last year, Luka Doncic's home in Dallas was also broken into, a crime that cost him $30,000 worth of jewelry.
This has also been a recurring problem for athletes from other sports leagues, particularly the NFL. Earlier this year, the homes of football stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were burglarized.
As a result, noticing a pattern, the FBI released a memo in December 2024 urging NBA and other professional athletes to remain vigilant as "transnational theft rings" could be involved in the string of robberies.
