Robert Eggers is the kind of creative who loves to tell period pieces (he famously hates iPhones in movies) and yet still brings us thrilling tales. The Nosferatu director has been a staple in genre film, and his 2022 film, The Northman, took us into the world of Vikings in a vicious yet poignant story. And now you can watch the Anya Taylor-Joy and Alexander Skarsgård led film when it hits Netflix, available to stream this coming December!

The film is bloody. Like, really bloody and is the definition of a revenge film. Prince Amleth (Skarsgård) watchd as his father was murdered before him and made it his life mission to reunite with his mother and get revenge for his father. Amleth repeatedly says "I will avenge you, Father! I will save you, Mother! I will kill you, Fjölnir!" throughout the film and if that's not a man dedicated to revenge.... But Eggers does a great job of bringing his signature look and feel to the story of Amleth, and if you were looking for a really gory movie this holiday season, this is the one for you!

The Northman is described as follows: "Prince Amleth is on the verge of becoming a man when his father is brutally murdered by his uncle, who kidnaps the boy's mother. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who raids Slavic villages. He soon meets a seeress who reminds him of his vow — save his mother, kill his uncle, avenge his father." Basically, you get to watch Skarsgård brutally kill a bunch of people for over two hours and that should be enough to get you to dive right into it! Also, his mother is Nicole Kidman. You're welcome.

Anya Taylor-Joy Also Starred In Another Amazing Action Film

Taylor-Joy may have been a magical being who knew all about Prince Amleth's mission in The Northman but she also went on to star as one of the fiercest women in George Miller's Mad Max franchise as Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Furiosa allowed Taylor-Joy to lean into the action in the way Skarsgård does in The Northman, and, if anything, it showed that we really need a movie with the two of them using those skills to bring down all the bad guys in their way. But at least we have them in this Eggers' film, right?

You can see Skarsgård and Taylor-Joy in The Northman on Netflix this December!
