Bo Nix responds to Vance Joseph saying QB could become next John Elway

The Denver Broncos come into Week 13 full of confidence in their defense, and rallying behind their second-year quarterback Bo Nix. Nix has had his struggles, but defensive coordinator Vance Joseph sees much more in Nix.

In an appearance during the bye week on the "Big Al and CJ Podcast" from Guerilla Sports, Joseph talked about Nix, and compared him to Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway. "I think Bo Nix is the Broncos' future John Elway; he's going to be here for a long time," said Joseph. "Because he's built for it. He's built for it, I promise you that. And No. 2 about Bo Nix, we know on gameday, he's gonna make a play."

Nix responded to Joseph's praise after Wednesday's practice.

“Well, that’s quite something coming from a coach like that, well-respected not only in our organization but in the entire league," said Nix. "Obviously, I know behind a statement like that comes a lot of work and responsibility. So doesn’t just happen in Year 1 or 2; it doesn’t just happen overnight. I continue to do my part, do my role in becoming the player that this team needs me to be. I’m definitely not going to slow down until I’m that and more. I’m excited about the opportunity at hand, and I’m excited about the team that we’re building."

Nix acknowledged he isn't near the level Elway is yet. Nix does believe the Broncos are building a winning culture and team. "We’re building something, we’ve got a great culture," Nix said. "I appreciate that statement, but definitely work and things behind the scenes that are going to keep that, I guess, put some power to that statement. So let’s definitely slow down, in comparing me to John Elway now. Coach ‘VJ’ (Vance Joseph), he’s unbelievable. He’s a great coach, a great encourager to his team. That’s why guys love playing for him.”

Joseph is sure to garner head coaching attention in the 2026 coaching cycle, and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb might as well. Nix and Co. will enjoy them while they have them, and Nix will look to prove Joseph right.
