Google shocked the world last week when it announced seamless file transfers between Android and iOS users. The Mountain View, California-based tech giant made Quick Share work with AirDrop, all without Apple's help.

At the time, Google alluded that it, alongside independent security experts, thoroughly tested the feature. This included threat modeling, internal security design and privacy reviews, and internal penetration testing to identify and fix vulnerabilities. Despite all the measures, it looks like nobody spotted whether the Wi-Fi would stay on.

Starting with the Pixel 10

First highlighted by user JayMZ (via PiunikaWeb) on Google's support forum, post updating to the latest Quick Share extension for AirDrop support, their Pixel 10 immediately loses Wi-Fi connectivity the moment they open the Quick Share sharing menu.

"It will not only disconnect me from my Wifi, but if I enter the Wifi menu while the QuickShare menu is still open, the list of networks is completely empty as if nothing was there. If I switch Wifi off and on with the QuickShare menu still open, only my home network will show up in the list, but I can't connect to it," wrote JayMZ.

Reddit users echo a similar issue

According to the user, the Wi-Fi issue resolved only after they "removed the update of quick share extension." Some commenters on the Reddit post echoed the sentiment. "Experiencing the same issue," wrote one user, while a different one said, "It's clearly a software bug. I just installed the extension update and it happens with me as well."

It's worth noting that the bug eventually made its way to Google's IssueTracker on November 22, only for it to be closed on the same day. IssueTracker engineers recommended the user to take the problem to Google's support forum, while the support forum folks say IssueTracker is the correct venue for such bug reports.

Considering acknowledgment on both sides, it is clear that Google knows about the issue. Whether it is actively working on a fix or not remains to be seen.
