Quentin Tarantino slams The Hunger Games as a blatant ripoff, saying "sue Suzanne [Collins] for every f**king thing she owns." Collins is the author of The Hunger Games books, the first of which was published in 2008, and have been adapted into five movies, with Sunrise on the Reaping set for release in theaters on November 20, 2026.

Appearing on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Quentin Tarantino expressed his frustration about how The Hunger Games is a blatant ripoff of the Japanese film Battle Royale (2000), which was based on a 1999 novel by Koushun Takami. Read Tarantino's full comments below:

I do not understand how the Japanese writer didn't sue [Hunger Games author] Suzanne Collins for every f**king thing she owns. They just ripped off the f**kin book. Stupid book critics are not going to go watch a Japanese movie called Battle Royale so the stupid book critics never called her on it. They talked about how it was the most original f**kin thing they'd ever read. As soon as the film critics saw the film, they said, "What the f**k? This is just Battle Royale except PG!"
