As they have for the past two years, Dave Canales' Carolina Panthers will look to stay the course.

The second-year head coach spoke with reporters on Wednesday, ahead of his team's Week 13 matchup against the NFC-leading Los Angeles Rams. And with Canales at the helm of what's been an inconsistent offensive output, he was asked if he thinks he needs to make a major change or just ride out the current storm.

"Yeah, just execution," he replied to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer. "And all of us, myself included—making sure that the game plan we put together, the vision that we have, comes to life. And making sure that our players are continuing to improve fundamentally.

"And that's the difference, in this point in the season. It's the teams that can find a way to improve their technique and fundamentals and continue to make that an emphasis late into the season that have success. So we gotta get back to that, making sure we're executing on all sides. And then from a coaching-staff standpoint, making sure we're connected to the things that have found us success and be committed to those."

Canales, who also calls plays for the offense, wasn't very committed to his rushing attack during Monday night's disappointing loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Running back Rico Dowdle, who was the NFL's fourth-leading rusher entering Week 12, was given just six carries in the 20-9 defeat.

That approach raised questions about Canales' decision making—to which he, right after the game, attributed to his hopes of keeping the passing game going.

"I just felt like building off what happened last week and just taking a step forward with the passing game—I saw some opportunities," he stated. "We were protecting pretty well, as far as pass protection goes. And just felt like we didn't come away with our opportunities consistently enough early on."

The week prior, in Carolina's 30-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons, quarterback Bryce Young passed for a franchise-record 448 yards and three touchdowns. He followed that career day up by throwing for 169 yards, one score and two interceptions against San Francisco.

Young has now thrown for fewer than 200 yards in nine of his 11 starts this season.
