Expectations are sky-high for the threequel after the first Avatar (2009) made $2.9 billion at the box office and still stands as the highest-grossing film of all time, followed by the long-awaited sequel, The Way of Water (2022), which grossed $2.3 billion, good enough for third all time.
Now, three weeks ahead of its December 19 debut, Avatar: Fire and Ash is projected for an opening at around $110 million, with estimates ranging from $100 million to $130 million, according to Deadline. While these early projections are below The Way of Water, which opened at $134 million, they are still seen as strong figures for Fire and Ash.
