Setting a record for the longest gap between entries over the years, the wait for Resident Evil Requiem hasn't exactly been the easiest for fans of the legendary survival horror series. While the wait for Requiem will hopefully be worth it based on Capcom's recent history of fantastic original projects and creative remakes, it's far from the only horror game to look forward to over the next few months.
Announced at the end of August, the indie game BrokenLore: DARK DAWN from Warani Studios and Serafiini Productions is shaping up to be the perfect companion game for Resident Evil fans. Offering a first-person psychological horror experience that looks even scarier than some of the more action-packed competitors, the latest entry in BrokenLore's survival horror series looks like it could be a hit.
Resident Evil Fans Should Check Out BrokenLore
Although Resident Evil has had plenty of rivals over the years, few games have come close to offering the same level of nightmarish horror as the more recent entries in the series. It's great to see indie games like DARK DAWN seemingly taking up the mantle, and even borrowing some elements from Kojima's canceled P.T. project.
Following BrokenLore: LOW and DON'T WATCH, DARK DAWN might be the most ambitious game in the series yet. The marketing material reveals a wider array of horrifying setpieces, ranging from cramped dungeons to eerie amusement parks, all filled with paranormal and terrifying real monsters to face.
DARK DAWN likely won't be able to match up against the longer length of Requiem, but the more concise package of its ambitious predecessors allowed for an even wilder ride through their twisted worlds.
BrokenLore: Dark Dawn Looks Seriously Twisted
Unlike the two previous games in the BrokenLore series, the upcoming DARK DAWN seems to be foregoing its experimental art styles in favor of a more immersive horror experience, helping its grotesque creatures come to life even more than before.
Rather than the bioweapons and egomaniacal villains that the Resident Evil series is known for, DARK DAWN leans much more heavily into the psychological horror aspects while tackling more real-world horrors. Its nightmarish, warped reality includes human trafficking, organ harvesting, and more, so it might not be for everyone.
BrokenLore: DARK DAWN is one of the 9 games in development by the horror studio.
Although there's no release date just yet for DARK DAWN, if it follows the same short gap between the announcement trailer and release of its predecessors, it could drop anytime within the next few months. With how many leaks and other details we've seen so far for Resident Evil Requiem already, games like BrokenLore: DARK DAWN are much more than just a way to help pass the time before Capcom's next major release.
