It took another deep playoff run for Watterson quarterback Drew Bellisari’s college recruitment to heat up, but the senior heads into the final stretch of his high school career with his next stop secured.

Bellisari, who is 28-0 as a starter and is two wins away from his team repeating as Division III state champions, announced his commitment to Miami University on Nov. 26.

“Go Redhawks! #committed,” Bellisari posted on X.

Bellisari has thrown for 2,003 yards and 26 touchdowns, rushed for 634 yards and 11 scores on 71 carries and was named district Offensive Player of the Year, but as late as the middle of this season, his only offers were from Dayton, Grand Valley State and Indianapolis.

That changed as the playoffs progressed, with Bellisari having shared offers from Kent State, Marshall and Miami within the past week. Bellisari threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns Nov. 21 in a 43-0 rout of Steubenville in the Region 11 final.

Bellisari’s father is former Ohio State and NFL linebacker Greg Bellisari. Drew’s uncle, Steve, played quarterback for the Buckeyes from 1998-2001.Watterson (12-0) will face Tipp City Tippecanoe (13-0) in a state semifinal Nov. 28 at Mason. A win would send the Eagles into their third straight state final against Cuyahoga Falls Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy or Toledo Central Catholic at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
