Sam Darnold will face a familiar foe this weekend when the Minnesota Vikings come to town to face the Seattle Seahawks.

Darnold spent the 2024 season in Minnesota, where he had a career year under Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell.

But defensive coordinator Brian Flores is familiar with Darnold and his game, and has a plan for the Vikings' defense to slow down the red-hot Seahawks.

Brian Flores says 'we'll blitz' Sam Darnold this week

In his press conference leading up to the Seahawks game, Flores spoke to the press about the relationship he shares with Darnold and how he plans on defending the eighth-year veteran.

"Sam's one of my favorites. He'd grown tremendously when he was here, for sure, just from a leadership standpoint," Flores said via The Minnesota Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer.

"He did a lot of great things when he was here, and clearly those things are continuing to show up for him out there in Seattle. We had a great rapport, friendship. I'm happy for him, but we'll blitz him this week."

Clearly, all those reps between Flores' defense and Darnold leading the offense in Vikings practice led to some familiarity between the two competitors.

Darnold will have the chance on Sunday to show Minnesota their mistake in letting him walk in free agency, as they struggle with their own quarterback issues.

Undrafted free agent rookie Max Brosmer is lined up to start with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy in concussion protocol.
