By Lucy NotarantonioShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberBachelorette parties often come with custom gear, heartfelt surprises, nonstop activities and even a trip abroad. That’s exactly what this bride-to-be had, but the “surprise” she got was anything but sweet.
Monica San Luis was presented with a montage of videos from her ex-boyfriends wishing her and her fiancé the best of luck, a move she found hilarious despite commenters calling it “my worst nightmare.”
The 28-year-old told Newsweek: “I thought it was the funniest thing in the world.”
...According to a YouGov poll of U.S. adults, more than a third (37 percent) say they’d want to remain friends with an ex if they were the one to end the relationship, while 29 percent say they wouldn’t.
This is the case for Luis and her partner, Dayson, who have been together for over ten years, so all of the men who featured in the video, which isn’t shown in the viral Instagram clip (@monicasanluis), weren’t exactly “serious” relationships.
“They were from middle school and early high school,” she told Newsweek. “I was literally 12 when I dated one of them!
“We are all still close friends and two of them are even my fiancé’s groomsmen, so the whole thing was just harmless and hilarious.
“Most of the girls at my bachelorette party have never known me without my fiancé, so it was so entertaining because they were like, ‘How do you even have exes when you and Dayson have been dating since you were born?’”
The November 21 clip has over 10 million views and more than 421,000 likes. Luis, who lives in New York, can be seen hysterically laughing while surrounded by her girlfriends.
The clip caption says: “This sent us into another dimension.”
She told Newsweek that even Dayson found it funny.
However, Instagram users disagree.
One user wrote: “If my fiancé did this i'm calling the wedding off and blocking all his friends," and another wrote: "I would be traumatized."
“It’s hilarious how much people are misunderstanding the situation,” Luis told Newsweek. “There are so many dramatic comments calling my friends bad friends for making the video or telling my fiancé to call off the wedding.
“I totally understand that it would be absurd if this were to happen to them, however for me these relationships were over a decade ago and were ‘young teenage love,’ so it’s all just a funny joke at this point.”
