Ray Didinger spoke honestly about the potential of an Eagles resurgence, and Philadelphia's fans aren't going to love what he said.

When a young man or woman decides to pursue a career in journalism and wants to spend their days and nights talking about the Philadelphia Eagles, there are a handful of names they add to their short list as examples to study. Everyone knows who Peter King is. Everyone clicks the 'follow' button on Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero's X accounts. Then, there are guys like Ray Didinger.

The man who authored The Eagles Encyclopedia is undoubtedly one of the names that we write down, place asterisks by, and highlight. He's revered like we revere Merrill Reese. Those guys have seen more football than all of us, so if they have an opinion, it's one we all want to hear.

This time around, however, we regret to inform you that, if you're struggling with how the Eagles are performing, he is too. His read on the Eagles after their loss in Arlington to the Dallas Cowboys won't instill confidence.

Ray Didinger’s candid read on the Eagles won’t fuel the belief that an immediate turnaround is coming.

"The fact is, if you look at where this offense is now, they're 25th overall, and this is going into the game. They're 25th overall. They're 29th on third down. They're 25th on average yards per rush. They're 26th on average yardage on first down snaps. The offense is just not good."

Those were the words of a legend, taken from Didiger's recent appearance on 94 WIP-FM's Morning Show. We've been promised turnarounds from everyone, from Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni to Saquon Barkley and the Eagles' offensive line. They're honest, but they're also optimistic, at least publicly. Those 'tell it like it is' guys aren't telling us this is a slump, and that better days are coming.

Correct us if we're wrong, but when have you heard Vic Fangio give us the delightful soliloquies of this team's offense and where its headed? Think about it. If you were Coach Fangio, how would you describe the Eagles' offense and its potential?

Didinger joins The Morning Show weekly during football season, and though his thoughts on recent playcalling and that final Jalen Hurts sack on third-and-two will be tough to hear, we recommend taking the 13 minutes to listen to what he had to say.

Ultimately, this is a playoff team. The Eagles are going to win the NFC East and host a home playoff game, but, as Didinger states, maybe we should reassess our expectations once they get there.
