Real Madrid are planning the signing of an elite centre-back next summer and have shortlisted three names who may all be available as free agents – Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guehi and Ibrahima Konate.

Their decision as to which of the three they will target is yet to be made, and the club are maintaining a close eye on all the targets to gauge their level and quality over the coming months.

As relayed by Defensa Central in a recent report, Los Blancos will have a special team in London tonight as part of the same objective to acquire first-hand reports on one of the prime targets’ performance.

Bayern Munich star under scrutiny

Florentino Perez and Co. have reportedly appointed a team to travel to the Emirates and watch the game between Arsenal and Bayern Munich so as to keep an eye on Upamecano who is expected to start for the German club.

Given how Arsenal are on top of the Premier League and one of world football’s most in-form clubs this season, the management sees Bayern Munich’s game against the Gunners to be the ideal stage to judge his quality against elite opposition.

The report that is sent to Perez after the game will not be final in helping the club make their decision, but it will play a significant role in propelling Upamecano’s name clear of the competition.

So far this season, the 27-year-old has already made ten appearances for his club in the league and averages over seven defensive actions per game. He has also overseen three clean sheets and over four ball recoveries per 90 minutes.

Real Madrid’s desperation for a new defender stems from David Alaba’s imminent departure and the uncertainty over Antonio Rudiger’s future at the club.

Moreover, Eder Militao’s fitness has proven to be rather unstable, bringing a feeling that more depth is the need of the hour.
