Egypt is gearing up for its sixth Arab Cup of Nations appearance. Their best result remains the title won in 1992.

After missing the first four editions, Egypt made its tournament debut in 1988 in Jordan. The squad, led by Aymen Shawky, was knocked out in the semi-finals by Syria (0-0, 4-3 on penalties).

The Egyptians shone four years later in Syria, lifting the trophy after defeating the hosts in the semi-finals (0-0, 4-3 on penalties) and overcoming Saudi Arabia in a thrilling final (3-2).

In 1998 in Qatar, Egypt fielded their U21 squad and exited in the group stage, after a win over Syria (2-1) and a heavy defeat to Kuwait (1-4). A similar fate awaited them in 2012, finishing third in Group C (two draws, one loss).

At Qatar 2021, Ahmed Sayed Zizo and his teammates topped their group ahead of Algeria, then beat Jordan (3-1 after extra time) in the quarter-finals. Their run ended in the semi-finals against Tunisia (0-1).

In the upcoming edition, Egypt will compete in Group C alongside Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, who eliminated Mauritania in the playoffs.
