TEXARKANA, Texas. (KTAL/KMSS)— Twenty-four Texas A&M University–Texarkana student-athletes have been recognized as NAIA Scholar-Athletes for fall 2025.
According to a news release, to qualify, students must hold a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and complete at least one full year at their institution. More than 6,000 students from over 250 NAIA schools earned the distinction nationwide.

TAMUT’s men’s soccer program led the way with 15 honorees: Aaron Bocanegra, Andre Budrich, Cristobal De Leon, David Bolarinwa, Derek Staiger, Edgar Bocanegra, Jacob Whatley, Javier Armendariz Galdamez, John Solomon, Jorge Vazquez, Maleek Russell, Mason Prather, Odera Oguanobi, Oscar Mejia, and William Otero.
Women’s soccer players Alexia Lara and Victoria Jaimes were also recognized, along with cross-country athletes Zalenka Brannan and Faizone Ogendo. Four women’s volleyball players — Kelby Coutee, Kaitlyn Cabral, Paulina Dobreva, and Mia Mata — earned the honor as well.
“I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes for earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition,” said TAMUT associate athletic director and compliance officer Fachaitte Kinslow in a news release. “Their dedication in the classroom mirrors the same discipline, resilience, and competitive spirit they bring to their sport. This honor showcases the hard work, balance, and commitment that make them exceptional representatives of our institution.”
