The wait for The Bear season 5 may prove easier to endure than the show’s fans were fearing.

The Hulu series' Emmy-winning star Jeremy Allen White just offered a filming update, indicating that shooting on the new season will begin “Very soon.” White doesn’t have the exact date pinned down, but was able to offer a rough estimate.

“Jan. 5 or something like that," White said when asked for information on when The Bear season 5 may get underway (via Variety).

Centered on the continued exploits of White’s troubled chef Carmy and his efforts to keep afloat his chaos-ridden Chicago eatery, The Bear season 4 premiered on Hulu June 25, 2025 with a 10-episode drop and was announced to be renewed for season 5 just a week later.

Season 1 premiered in 2022 and went on to dominate the Emmy Awards, winning the prize for Outstanding Comedy Series, with star White winning Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series. White was a repeat winner the very next year, though the show failed to score a second consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy.

More nominations rolled in for The Bear season 3, but Emmy voters had by now cooled on the once-dominating show, which failed to win any of the major awards.

The Bear season 4 continued a disappointing trend for the show, as its Rotten Tomatoes score dipped to 84%, lower than any of the previous three seasons.

ScreenRant’s own review of The Bear season 4 called the show's efforts “confused” and said the series was merely “spinning its wheels” at this point in its run.

“It would have been impressive if The Bear found a way to make it exciting to worry about the fate of the restaurant again, but I couldn't bring myself to care as much as I might have wanted to,” the review complains.

ScreenRant offered a more positive review of the season 4 finale, calling it one of the series’ best episodes, and noting that it left the characters at a point of closure in the event that the series was not renewed.

The episode “Set the core cast on paths which could be considered a good point to leave their characters, as Sydney and Richie inherit the responsibilities of running the restaurant, while Carmy sets out to finally conquer his demons, realizing that his leadership was harming his own life,” the review explains.

The series was renewed, however.

The Bear season 5 does not yet have a premiere date on Hulu.
