Florida State men’s basketball (4-1, 0-0) rounds out a string of three consecutive cupcakes with a home matchup against CSU Bakersfield (3-3, 0-0) before the schedule stiffens for the Seminoles.
Luke Loucks’ team is coming off another blowout win over a lesser opponent as FSU defeated Georgia Southern 98-72 last Friday. In the contest, Florida State broke the program record for three-point attempts in a game with 49, and at one point, shot 12 straight threes. It was not all perfect for Florida State, as the Seminoles allowed the Eagles to hang around for most of the first half, a trend that has become a theme for FSU early in the season. Still, this team has proven it can turn it on when it needs to and can shoot itself into a blowout.

However, the Seminoles can continue focusing on rounding out their game against CSU Bakersfield, who are currently ranked 273rd on KenPom.

FSU vs. CSU Bakersfield: Notes to know
As noted, the three-point shot has been and will be the calling card of Florida State’s roster this season. The Seminoles lead the country in three-point attempts and three-point makes at this point in the year, with no signs of slowing down. Tomahawk Nation’s Curt Weiler also noted on X Monday that the Seminoles are the fastest high-major team in the country with an average offensive possession of 13.9 seconds. Loucks wants his team to shoot the ball and shoot it quickly, making for a complete 180 from the basketball played at the Tuck over the last 20 years.
A somber cloud hangs over this CSU Bakersfield season after one of their assistant coaches was arrested on multiple charges, and their head coach resigned just before the start of the season due to the news. Mike Scott was named interim head coach on September 25th, in his 9th season with the CSU Bakersfield program.
CSU Bakersfield: Players to know
G Dailin Smith leads CSU Bakersfield in scoring this season, averaging 17 points per game while recording double-digit points in five of the first six games of the season. Smith does an excellent job drawing fouls, going to the free-throw line six times or more this season, which will be a test for an FSU defense that loves to foul.
G CJ Hardy provides the majority of the scoring punch alongside Smith, averaging 16.3 points per game this year with 13 points scored or more in five of six contests. Hardy can also control the offense and has multiple assists in four games this season, including seven dimes during CSU Bakersfield’s matchup against Portland State.
