The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the best teams in the league, but they're at risk of losing their star slugger, Kyle Schwarber, to free agency this winter. Schwarber is projected to sign a blockbuster $160 million deal this winter, per Jim Bowden, which should limit his suitors on the open market.
The Phillies need to do whatever they can to bring Schwarber back. He's one of the top names on the market, and the Phillies need to secure a new deal.
Bleacher Report's Erik Beaston recently predicted Schwarber would stay in Philadelphia on a new contract in free agency.
..."They (Pittsburgh Pirates) will not land Schwarber, unless they pony up an unheard of amount of money, mostly because the prospects of him signing one last, big contract with a team that is unlikely to be in the playoff hunt are sub-zero," Beaston wrote. "Still, the potential is there for the team to make more noise than normal this offseason, to the delight of a fan base unfamiliar with it."
Schwarber is one of the premier power hitters in the league right now. He would have won the National League MVP award this year if it weren't for the great Shohei Ohtani.
The slugger is a fan favorite in Philadelphia. The Phillies would be foolish to let him go. Considering there are some teams that wouldn't want a designated hitter like Schwarber, the market isn't going to be as hot as it might seem. Because of this, the Phillies should be able to win the sweepstakes for the superstar.
