The Back to the Future franchise's streaming future has been dealt a hard blow. Few movies have become as influential for the theatrical landscape and future generations as director Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future franchise. That is why rumors about the franchise coming back in some form continue to this day. Fans must have at least heard about the Tom Holland rumors.
Still, Back to the Future 4's chances of happening do not look good. While the studio remains interested in bringing back the franchise, Zemeckis does not want that to happen. While no new movies are coming, Back to the Future fans still had reason to celebrate in 2025, as the year marks the first film's 40th birthday, but a streaming update sours it a bit.
The Back To The Future Trilogy Is Leaving Netflix Next Month

The Back to the Future trilogy will be leaving Netflix on December 1st. As such, fans who want to rewatch the trilogy while it is still on the streaming service will have to rush to do it, as the Back to the Future movies only have less than a week left before they are removed from Netflix.
Beyond just the franchise's popularity, what truly shocks me about the Back to the Future movies leaving Netflix is how soon that is happening after they joined the streamer's roster. As part of the franchise's 40th anniversary, the trilogy starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd arrived on Netflix on November 1st. The movies had not been available on streaming for some time.
As such, the Back to the Future trilogy has only stayed on Netflix for a full month, with it now being removed from the streamer at the start of December. Given the franchise's elusive nature when it comes to streaming, that move is truly disappointing for Back to the Future fans. Netflix is the biggest streamer around, and a long run was expected.
Why You Should Watch The Back To The Future Trilogy Before It Leaves Netflix

With the Back to the Future movies leaving Netflix next week, now is the time to dive back in for another rewatch or check the iconic franchise out for the first time. Who knows when the films will be available on streaming again? Back to the Future features one of the most charming leading performances Hollywood has ever seen in the form of Fox's Marty McFly.
While we know that flying cars are not a thing in the present, it is easy to get swept up by what the franchise envisioned the future would look like. There are many fun scenarios, the time travel is impactful, and the franchise's spectacle is anchored by hard-hitting emotional moments. The Back to the Future movies are essential viewing.
