Which teams are in the World Cup draw 2026?

There are 42 confirmed teams in the group stage. The remaining six places will be filled by the winners of the inter-confederation and UEFA playoff tournaments, which are held in March 2026.

Those playoff "pathway" winners will be assigned to a group at the draw, so the teams entering the playoffs will know their potential group before those tournaments are held.

Who can still qualify for World Cup 2026?

There are 22 teams who are still in the mix for World Cup qualification, battling for six spots.

Sixteen European nations are bidding to claim one of four places in the group stage at next March's UEFA playoffs. The four eventual winners will presumably be placed in Pot 4, although FIFA has not confirmed this.

Additionally, six teams have progressed to the intercontinental playoffs, all from various confederations. This will produce two more World Cup finalists, both of whom will be entered into Pot 4.

How does the World Cup 2026 draw work?

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a random draw will be conducted to determine the 12 groups, each consisting of four teams.

The 48 teams will be split into four pots, with each group consisting of one team from each pot.
