Inter Milan midfield dynamo Hakan Calhanoglu fell short of expectations in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

According to the Italian press via L’Interista, the 31-year-old’s mistakes returned to haunt the Nerazzurri.

The Nerazzurri lost the 183rd edition of the famous Milan derby despite dominating the game from start to finish.

Indeed, Cristian Chivu suffered defeat in his maiden managerial appearance in this fixture, partly thanks to Calhanoglu.

Though the Turkish star has been Inter’s standout performer this season, he was a shadow of his true self on Sunday.

Hakan Calhanoglu, who swapped Milan for Inter in 2021, helped his former side pull off an upset last weekend.

Indeed, his reckless giveaway near the halfway line opened space for Milan to engineer a lethal counter-attack.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Christian Pulisic seized the opportunity, punishing Calhanoglu’s blunder at the start of the second half.

However, the Turk had a perfect opportunity to atone for that lapse in concentration.
