After breaking all kinds of records on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs get an opportunity to defend their state Group 1 crown.

Glassboro (13-0) vs. Cedar Grove (10-3)

When: Sunday, noon

Where: SHI Stadium, Rutgers University, Piscataway

How they got here: Glassboro-Audubon, 41-0; Salem, 35-0; Schalick, 47-14; Burlington City, 44-8. Cedar Grove-Glen Ridge, 35-20; Mountain Lakes, 22-15; New Providence, 37-13; Butler, 24-21.

State titles: Glassboro 1 (2024); Cedar Grove 0.

By the numbers

30 – Points Glassboro needs to set the South Jersey single-season mark. Penns Grove boasts the record of 621 set in the 2012 season. The Bulldogs have registered 592 points through their first 13 games. The team scored 508 in 13 games during its run to the state title last season.

2,562 – Passing yards for Glassboro quarterback Jack O’Connell. The senior has achieved two Gloucester County records for passing yards and touchdown passes (37), according to local football historian Chuck Langerman.

26 – Consecutive wins for Glassboro. It's the longest current streak in the state and second longest in the program's history. The Bulldogs won 30 straight from 2007-2009.

512 – Rushing yards for Amari Sabb in his last three games. He has 704 total for the season.

8 – Shutouts for Glassboro. The Bulldogs get one final chance to tie the South Jersey single-season record (nine) held by Millville since 1917. The team has surrendered 62 points, which still ranks as the fewest in the West Jersey Football League despite the extra games played.

49 – Yards on Sebastian Kovac’s game-winning field goal in the closing seconds of last week’s 24-21 win over previously unbeaten Butler in the state semifinal. He’s 4-of-7 in field goal attempts this season and 19-of-29 in his scholastic career.

35 – Total touchdowns for Cedar Grove’s Pierce Asfaig. The senior quarterback has thrown for 2,794 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding 910 yards and 15 TDs on the ground.

7 – Touchdown catches for Cedar Grove’s Xavier Andujar. The senior also leads the team in catches (73) and receiving yards (981).

Predictions

Tom Rimback: This rematch figures to be a bit closer than last year’s edition but the Bulldogs have as much firepower. Glassboro wins, 42-18.

Tom McGurk: Glassboro has a shot at some historic accomplishments on both sides of the ball. However, the only thing that matters is another crown and the Bulldogs will grab it with both hands. Glassboro wins, 36-6.
