Game Of Thrones was more than a high-concept fantasy series for HBO, it was a disruptor in the market that became a cultural force, reshaping how prestige television handled itself.
As Game Of Thrones found its way through a saturated market, the series pushed other platforms to beg the question of what their contribution to the fantasy prestige market would be. While not every streamer was looking for a high-fantasy offering, it was clear that there was a large viewership for those who were willing to take the plunge.
While Apple TV seems to have a stronghold on sci-fi shows that lean into the high-concept elements of the genre, its closest contribution to the prestige TV boom has been with Severance. Now, however, Apple TV is bringing a new series into the spotlight that could define the streamer as a dark, complicated offering along the lines of Game Of Thrones.
Neuromancer Can Be Apple TV's Flagship Show If Done Right
The Cyberpunk Series Is Based On William Gibson's Novel
The Neuromancer alternate title shows a person made out of power cords wearing goggles
Based on the 1984 William Gibson novel, Neuromancer is set to come to Apple TV in the coming year. The story centers on Case (Callum Turner), a top-tier hacker with emotional damage, and his partner Molly (Briana Middleton), a cyber-enhanced assassin. The pair navigate a dangerous web of digital espionage, corporate warfare, and artificial intelligence through a web of technology.
Much like Severance has become the face of Apple TV as it increased the platform's footprint, Neuromancer could be a pivotal step in bringing the streaming platform further into the prestige space with another high-production adaptation. If the series is able to pull off a faithful adaptation which the creative team seems dedicated to, that sparks conversation and draws viewers to the table.
Apple TV's Sci-Fi Track Record Makes Neuromancer Even More Exciting
The Streamer Has A Proven Record With Sci-Fi Shows

As Apple TV has navigated its recent string of hits, the streamer has been able to find a niche in its programming when it comes to sci-fi shows. While Severance remains on the bubble of sci-fi in most ways, the streamer has also been able to bring high-production value shows into the mix. Apple TV's sci-fi slate is full of hits.
Having produced Foundation, Silo, and For All Mankind in recent years, Apple TV has done its best to find itself deeply rooted in the sci-fi space. As one of the foundational stories of the cyberpunk genre, Neuromancer is a story that will draw in more than just sci-fi enthusiasts. If Apple TV can nail Neuromancer, it could be the crown jewel of the platform.
