After agreeing to terms on a three-year contract extension with kicker Wil Lutz over the weekend, the Denver Broncos officially announced his new deal on Monday.

Terms of the contract are not yet known, but NFL Network reported it will make Lutz the sixth-highest paid kicker in the NFL, which likely means it's worth around $5.4 million per season.

Since he entered the league in 2016, Lutz has scored 1,114 points, second most during that span. He also became the fourth-fastest kicker in league history to top 1,100 career points.

“I think first off, he’s earned it," Broncos coach Sean Payton said during a conference call on Monday. "We spent time, George [Paton] and I, before the break and discussed a number of players that we’re going to visit with. The key is not affecting the mojo or how your team’s doing. I’m always sensitive to that, especially when you’re playing well, because sometimes those can be difficult discussions. But no, we were able to get Wil done. There are a few other players that we know we’ve reached out to, and I think the key is the communication aspect of it all. He’s played well. He’s consistent, and I think he has the respect of the locker room. I think, like all kickers, there are ups and downs, but he’s been a great addition for us.”

Lutz is 17-of-20 on field goal attempts this season and 24-of-24 on extra point attempts. Lutz has had four game-winning field goals in 2025, and he was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in October.

This week, Lutz and Co. will go on the road to face the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. There have been reports that cornerback Pat Surtain (pec) and linebacker Alex Singleton (illness) could return in time for SNF, but Payton was unwilling to provide an update on their statuses.

“I would never get into that on a Monday," Payton said when asked about Surtain and Singleton. "I appreciate the question, though.”

Payton was then asked in a follow-up question if he's been pleased with the progress Surtain and Singleton have made in their respective recoveries.

“Yes," Payton said. "I wouldn’t get into anything injury-related, but I appreciate the question.”

Denver's scheduled to return to the practice field on Wednesday, and we should learn more about the statuses of Surtain and Singleton (and tight end Nate Adkins and outside linebacker Jonah Elliss) after that practice.
