The Kansas City Chiefs managed a stirring overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts that keeps their playoff hopes alive, but it didn't come easy.

After a rather consistent first half that saw the Chiefs score on four of their five possessions, the second half was a little different. From six possessions, the Chiefs punted three times, had a fumble, a touchdown, and a field goal.

But it was that last field goal where the Chiefs flexed their muscles. A 21-play, 90-yard drive that took 4:43 of the clock to send the game into overtime. Then, when the Chiefs got the ball in overtime, a 14-play, 86-yard drive that put Harrison Butker into range, and he calmly slotted the field goal.

But what was the catalyst for two superb final drives from the Chiefs? Patrick Mahomes knows.

“I think guys just it's kind of the urgency thing,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, you want to be urgent, but it was do-or-die type thing where you had to make something happen, and guys made plays happen throughout the entire team. It wasn't one person. It was everybody made plays in the biggest moments and we found a way to win.”

The final score would suggest a close game, but when we delve into the stats a little more, it is remarkable that the score was so close.

The Chiefs had 494 total yards to 255, had 33 first downs to 10, ran 91 plays to 50, forced six punts, and had the ball for nearly 17 minutes more than Indianapolis. Also, this might have made it close; the Chiefs were 1/6 in the redzone.

So yes, the score would make you believe that this was a close game, but the Chiefs just couldn't convert in the redzone, and the Colts' defense did a good job of bending but not breaking.

The Chiefs needed this win desperately, and when it was time for the rubber to meet the road, Andy Reid's team clicked into gear and took the game away from the Colts.

Onto Dallas they go.
