In a Reddit post shared on Thursday under the username u/Stealingursoda, the poster revealed what was inside her bedside water, a big cockroach lying upside down on the surface of the water, not making a single move.
“Just found this bug in my bedside water. What is it and how do I make sure there aren't more?” she asked users in the r/AskUK channel.
“Please help calm me down I’ve been living in a flat until about two months ago and have never had this problem before. I left my water from last night on my bedside table when I came home I discovered this bug in it. What is it and how can I make sure there aren't more/get rid of them.”
...The post quickly gathered over 116 upvotes and 98 comments on the platform. One user, Goregrindgirly, commented: “That’s a German cockroach. They infest. I don’t know how to deal with it... They will usually hide in heated places (under fridges etc).”
Freeipods-zoy-org said: “Lurker from the southern U.S. here. That is 100 percent a German roach. Pest control needs to get in there asap, and into all the other units. If you’ve found one, there are thousands more nearby if not in your unit.”
Henrylad89 added: “Pest controller here, that is a German cockroach. Easily identified by the stripes on its head.”
After reading the comments, the poster provided a further update: “Thanks all I have compared pictures of earwigs and German cockroaches to the bug. It seems it's probably the German one. I've raised it with my landlord. Feel like my skin is crawling”
The best way to deal with a cockroach infestation is to have experts install roach baits to kill them. Most insecticides are not effective against German roaches.
Gel baits have quicker results than bait stations, meanwhile bait stations are perfect for ongoing maintenance after the use of gel baits.
